The understanding and use of the EMDR interweave is one of the most complex aspects of EMDR therapy and one that is difficult to master. It is also a therapeutic strategy that can speed up processing and help clinicians be more effective in supporting their clients as they embrace the memories of trauma and adversity. Clients, especially the ones with complex clinical presentations, require a more active and skillful participation from the clinician. This process requires adequate understanding of the EMDR interweave and a good repertoire of potential interweaves that can be available to the clinician and the client.
